Crawfordsville – Alberta J. 'Bertie' Wilson Fenters age 88 of Crawfordsville, died following a short illness, 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 in IU Health West Hospital, Avon. She was born in Darlington, July 22, 1923 daughter of the late Guy Larue and Opal Chesterton Wilson. She married James R. Fenters April 12, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Bertie was a graduate of Wingate High School and had remained a life-long resident of Montgomery County, except for living at Camp Pendleton in California with her husband during WWII. She was employed by R. & R. Donnelly in various positions, retiring after 41 years of service in 1988. Bertie was a member of the Crawfordsville United Methodist Church and Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. Her family was her world, always giving unconditional love. She enjoyed traveling with family especially to Hawaii. She was also an avid reader, enjoying history, doing outdoor work and listening to Big-Band music.
She is survived by: beloved sons, James (Shelia) Fenters of Crawfordsville and Randall Fenters of Merrillville. Her cherished grandchildren, Becky (Pete) Silins, Dan (Margaret) Fenters, Steven (Andrea) Fenters and Tony (Mandy) Fenters. Adored great and great-great grandchildren include: Tomi, Michael, Maria, Henry, Tully, Clare, Izabell, Jacob, Lillian and Livija. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Mary Louise Wilson of Indianapolis. Preceding her in death were her parents and Brother Guy.
The family will receive guests, Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Family & Friends Funeral Home, Wingate, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dorman Winger officiating. Following her wishes, Bertie will be cremated following her funeral. Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at a later date.
