Wingate – Allene Gearlds Rush, age 77, of Wingate, died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in Ben Hur Health and Rehabilitation, Crawfordsville, following a short illness. She was born in Monroe County, Kentucky on September 27, 1939 daughter of late Reginald and Lorene (nee Geralds) Gearlds. She married Robert L. Rush June 28, 1958 and he preceded her in death April 1, 1988.

Allene attended schools in Kentucky and Indianapolis then moved to Wingate in 1958 following her marriage. She loved to sew and quilt. She had quilted blankets for her children and grandchildren as well as children of friends. She was an accomplished cook and enjoyed cooking in the Wingate restaurant. She had a large garden and enjoyed canning her bounty. She had also raised chickens and sold eggs.

At age 49, following her husband's death, Allene learned how to drive a car with the instruction of her son Bruce. That independence allowed her to take a position at Walmart Optical Lab in Crawfordsville.

Surviving are two sons: Charles Rush of Waynetown and Bruce (Penni) Rush of Lafayette. A son-in-law Marty Landon of Wingate. Grandchildren: Jessica (Chase) Miller, Sara (Brian) Howard, Amanda (Travis) Hillenbrand, Lindsay Rush, Jeremy Rush (Jessica Harkrider), Kyle and Cory Rush. Great-grandchildren Hazel Howard and Bowan Rush. Brothers: Wayne, Kenneth, Tony, Billy and Bobby Gearlds. Sisters: Joanna Mihay, Sue Busch, Debbie Guy and Pam Hammer. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents, daughter Joann Landon, two infant siblings and a sister Martha.

Visitation hours are 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2016 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wingate.
