Wingate – Barbara 'Joan' Goode Lohorn, age 81, died in Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Joan was born in Waynetown, March 15, 1933 daughter of the late Carlos J. and Lucinda Mitchell Goode. She first married Harold Oswalt in 1953 and they divorced in 1985. She later married William J. Lohorn in 1991 and he preceded her in death in 2004.

Joan graduated from Wingate High School and had been employed by Alcoa, R. R. Donnelly and National Homes. She retired after many years at Purdue University on the clerical staff in the graduate school. She had been an active member of the Wingate and Alamo Order of Eastern Star, serving as Past Matron and receiving her 50 year pin. She had been a member of the Crawfordsville American Legion Auxiliary, serving as President and Secretary for over 25 years. She had also been an active member of the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ since 1943. She was a dedicated grandmother and enjoyed attending school sporting events until her health prevented.

Surviving are: a daughter, Cathy Oswalt Spurgeon of Wingate, a grandson Austin Spurgeon of Wingate, a brother Carlos L. (wife Sharon) Goode of Crawfordsville, step-children: Kay Reeder and Bill Lohorn both of California. Nine step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren. Her good friends, Sue Claycomb, Dawn Mitchell and Sue Bartleson also survive.

Her family will greet friends, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m at the funeral home with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
