Wingate – Beverly J. Ellingwood Carrell, age 87, passed away, 6:37 AM Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville. She was born in Montgomery County, November 16, 1931 to the late Lloyd and Minnie Phillips Ellingwood. She married Donald Carrell, December 21, 1951 and he survives. They would have celebrated their 67 th wedding anniversary in a few weeks.
Beverly graduated as class valedictorian from Alamo High School with the class of 1949. She had taken courses at Purdue University and graduated from the ACE (Accomplished Clerical Excellence) Program at Purdue. She retired from Purdue in the accounting department. She was the Wingate Town Clerk/Treasurer for two terms and was previously employed by Mid States Steel & Wire, Wolf & Himes Fertilizer later Chester, Inc.
Beverly was a great mother/grandmother and a wonderful cook. She was a member of New Hope Chapel where she was active until her health declined, the former American Legion Auxiliary Post #72, Wingate Extension Homemakers and Colonial Red Hatters. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading, cooking, collected Fenton and Cobalt glassware, Longaberger Baskets and matchbox covers.
Surviving with her husband Donald are: Three sons; Michael (Kathy) Carrell of Waynetown, Dennis (Barbara) Carrell of Lebanon, Kenneth (Deb) Carrell of Noblesville, a daughter Patricia Brown of Olympia , WA . a brother Lloyd Ellingwood of Lafayette, three sisters; Eleanor Ilene Hedrick of Mulberry, Rita (Clyde) Jones of Crawfordsville and Barbara Ellingwood of Crawfordsville. Eight grandchildren: Heather Chesterson, Joshua (Nicole) Carrell, Kristal (Jason) Thomas, Marcus Brown, Stacy (Craig) Parnell, Keith (Rebecca) Carrell, Matthew (Stephanie) Carrell, Megan Carrell, Great-grandchildren Annalise Thomas and Jaxon Carrell. Preceding her in death were her parents, son Daniel, grandson Adam Carrell, grandson-in-law Mark Chesterton.
Visitation hours are 5:00-8:00 PM Friday, December 7, 2018 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with funeral services at the funeral home, 11:00 AM Saturday, December 8, 2018 with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating. Interment will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to New Hope Chapel. Visit us at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guest book or leave a condolence.
