IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Lee
Myers
January 30, 1939 – April 13, 2019
Carol "Katie" Myers, 80, of New Richmond Indiana completed her assignment on this earth Saturday morning April 13 th , 2019. She enjoyed early mornings so it was fitting she began her new life in Heaven at 4:06 A.M.
Katie was born on January 30, 1939 to Lois and Harley Mills of Olivet Il, whom have preceded her in death. She has a brother, Ernie Mills and two sisters, Norma Walker and Donna Taylor, all of whom she loved dearly as they constantly filled the room with laughter when they were together. Her siblings all survive.
Katie's childhood was in Olivet IL where she loved to be outside. She loved flowers and playing with her kittens. Most of all she loved teasing her siblings. Katie attended Georgetown High School and was involved with numerous activities and clubs. She was the Home Coming Queen in 1957.
She married her former husband, Don Myers, on June 21, 1958, whom preceded her in death. They farmed for most of their adventure together around Catlin IL and moved to New Richmond Indiana in March of 1969. She work several places including GE, as Real Estate Agent and most recent at USPS. That is what she did – the following is who she was.
Katie's first commitment was to be a caring and loving Mom to her four children – an assignment well done! Her children are Greg Myers (spouse Michelle) of Murfreesboro TN, Kristi Myers-Sutter (spouse Mark Verbeke) of Atlanta GA, Kimberly Crum of Greenville SC and Gene Myers (spouse Montrey) of New Richmond IN. She sacrificed daily and worked tirelessly to provide for her children. At a time when there where no modern conveniences and limited resources she made each meal feel like a feast. She loved her children being around the table. She imparted a caring spirit, her devoted faith and quirky sense of humor. She loved to laugh. Her home was often filled with her children's friends and they also felt something special.
Later, Katie assumed another special purpose to make each of her 12 Grandchildren feel like they were her favorite – a debate that will continue for some time. She shared her sense of humor with each one. Grandma Katie shared with them the importance of the four major food groups – coffee, pizza, ice cream and popcorn. Every day should begin with coffee along with any conversation during the day. Pizza was perfect for celebrations, never ever pass up ice cream and there was no better snack than popcorn. They went to her for wisdom and to solve daily problems. She always had time to listen. Most of her Grandchildren introduced their future spouses to Grandma Katie first to make sure they passed her 'test' before introducing them to the rest of the family. One Grandson, Jacob, preceded her in death.
Her last responsibility her on earth, which she gladly accepted, was to be a Great Grandmother – but she was still known as Grandma Katie. She made each of her 18 Great Grandchildren feel like they were the only one – lots of hugs and kisses and a playful spirit. For them, she added marshmallows and candy to the major food groups. Her health limited some of her activities later in life, but not her caring spirit and sense of humor. She made their time together fun.
Her family and friends will celebrate her life with a visitation time 5:00 – 7:00 PM EST Friday April 19 th , 2019 at Friends and Family Funeral Home of Wingate IN. Katie's Celebration Service will be 11:00 AM EST Saturday, April 20th at the funeral home with Pastor Allen Sparks officiating. Graveside services will follow in Georgetown Cemetery at 12:00 PM CST.
