Carol Shaffer, 72, of Newtown, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at 12:08 p.m. at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born September 30, 1953, in Ford City, Pennsylvania, to Dorothy Beck Shaffer and Alvie Shaffer, Carol was a devoted mother, grandmother, homemaker, and companion whose warmth touched all who knew her.

Carol spent many years traveling with the 21st Century Carnival, building lasting memories along the way. She was an avid collector and thrifter who found beauty in unexpected places. She especially loved decorating for the holidays and creating warm, welcoming spaces for her grandchildren. Her front porch was a reflection of her creativity and care, and she could often be found sitting on her porch swing with her coffee, ready to talk about anything.

Above all, Carol cherished her family. She took great pride in her children and especially adored Caleb J. Mitchell and Cameron R. Mitchell of Lafayette, whom she helped raise and loved as her own. Carol is survived by her children, Robert I. Pierce of Terre Haute, Christine L. Billingsley of Veedersburg, and Gregory A. Shaffer of Pennsylvania.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Caleb, Cameron, Hailey, Laylah, Landon, Liam, Leighton, Jeffery, and Elizabeth, Malia Latasha. Desserri; her cousin, Jennifer Pius of Pennsylvania; and her longtime companion, Joseph Barnes, of Newtown who shared the last 25 years of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Beck Shaffer and Alvie Shaffer; her sons, Freddie R. Slagle and Joseph R. Slagle; and her former companions, Bob Slagle, Joseph Billingsley, and Kyle Rimel.

Carol will be remembered for her deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren, and for the warmth and joy she brought into the lives of those around her.
