Charles O “Charlie” Pirtle, 90, of Petersburg, IL passed away May 27, 2026 at Mason City Area Nursing Home.
Charlie was born May 10, 1936 in Carlisle, Indiana, to Raymond and Racheal (Hart) Pirtle. He graduated from Carlisle High School and spent much of his life working in agriculture and transportation. Charlie worked as an agriculture fertilizer manager for Custom Farm Service, a sales representative for Morton Buildings, and later worked as a truck driver for Wolfe Oil, Smith Trucking, and Espenschied Trucking.
He was a member of the Freemasons in Indiana,and attended Tallula Baptist Church. In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and camping.
Charlie is survived by his companion of 26 years: Ada Powell, his children: Randy (Deb Perry) Pirtle of Crawfordsville, Phil (Robin) Pirtle of Waynetown, and Brenda (Tony) Gordon of Ladoga. His grandchildren: Craig (Jessie) Pirtle, Kristie (Travis) Howell, Christopher (Crystal) Pirtle, Nicholas (Sarah) Pirtle, Wendy (Andy) Rogers, Justin (Sarah) Taylor, and Jerad (Lakesha) Taylor. He was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition, Charlie is survived by his “bonus” children, Teresa (Dave) Hilderbrand, Don Stockton, Stacey (Jamie) Stufflebeam and Tracey (Evan) Minder, along with many bonus grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Charlie also leaves behind his dear neighbors and friends, Mike and Shirley Willis. Charlie considered Mike his best friend, and the two shared many years of stories, laughter, and beers together in their front yards. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Irene and Katherine and his brother, Gerald.
