IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Andrew
Mccorkle
September 7, 1941 – March 3, 2025
Charles 'Andrew' McCorkle age 83 of Crawfordsville and long-time Wingate resident, passed away unexpectedly in his home Monday, March 3, 2025. Andrew was born in Lafayette, September 7, 1941 son of the late Charles Howard and Irene McCoy McCorkle.
Andrew was raised in the Wingate community, attended Coal Creek Central Schools and he graduated from Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN. He went on to graduate from the Purdue University School of Agriculture. Following college, he returned to Wingate and began farming with his brother John, raising grain and beef cattle. He also was employed by Frito-Lay and later R. R. Donnelley & Sons while farming.
Andrew had an interest in preserving sandstone cemetery markers in old cemeteries and spent many hours in restoration and cleaning them. Andrew could talk about anything and seldom missed a visitation of someone he knew. He was proud that recorded history, documented the inventor of the 'reaper' Cyrus McCormick, sold his great-grandfather the first reaper in the area. For the sum of $100 McCormick sent the reaper by rail from Chicago to Wingate and demonstrated it on the family farm for three days.
Andrew out-lived most of his immediate family. Surviving cousins include: Sankey (Art) Blondin, Noel McCoy, Patricia Champlin, Gretchen Smyth, Margaret Dolan, Ann Garber, the Risk family and many people of the community considering Andrew a friend.
There will be a memorial gathering/visitation at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM with a memorial service following at 3:00 PM with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating. Andrew will be inurned at Meharry Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Meharry Cemetery Assn. or Coal Creek Fire & Rescue.
