Obituary

Chester Layton Galloway, age 96, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday, January 1, 2018 in Williamsburg Healthcare, Crawfordsville, where he had resided since 2016. He was born in rural Fountain County, November 5, 1921, son of the late George Glenn and Fern Layton Galloway. He married Martha L. Linville, September 9, 1945 in the Mellott United Church of Christ, she survives. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in September

Chet was a graduate of Covington High School and attended the Purdue Winter Short Courses. He was a member of the Mellott United Church of Christ. He was a life long farmer in Fountain County, in the Mellott community since 1959. He enjoyed the land and raising beef cattle. Chet enjoyed mushroom hunting, and was successful for 80 plus years, always providing bounty for the annual family mushroom fry. He was a family man and enjoyed his grandchildren.

Surviving along with his wife Martha, are: Three daughters; Kathryn (Terry) Smith of Lafayette, Karen (Andy) Biddle of Crawfordsville and Patricia Galloway (Kenny Flick) of Waveland; brother, Dale Galloway of Maybank, TX and sister Dorothy Conder of Cicero, IN. Grandchildren: Jason (Natalia) Smith of Atlanta GA, Amanda Smith of Chicago, Geoffry (Lindsey) Smith of Palmetto, GA, Adam (Ann) Biddle of Noblesville, Anna (Chris) Pratt of Orlando, FL, Ellen Biddle (Bill Warren) of Crawfordsville, Madeline (Dan) Lane of Lakewood, CO and Fern Bachner (Chris Black) of Indianapolis. Thirteen great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Suellen and son-in-law Michael Bachner and great-grandson Heath Adam Biddle and a sister Mary Margaret Moudy

Visitation hours are, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Thurday, Janaury 4, 2018 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Andy Biddle leading the service. Inurment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington at a later date.
