Obituary

Wingate – Clarence 'Joy' Hoskins, age 81 of Wingate, died following a short illness, Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:35 a.m. in St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette. He was born in Carmel, in Hamilton County on October 10, 1933, son of the late Monroe and Fannie Whitaker Hoskins. Nancy Louise Irvin Hoskins was his best friend, love of his life and she survives. They were married June 1, 1952, in Seymour, IN at St. Paul's Christian Church and would have celebrated their 63 year anniversary in June.

Joy received his diploma from Richland Township High School in Newtown and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Saipan. He retired after 37 ½ years as a truck driver. He began his career with Montgomery County Co-op and continued with Heartland Co-op, West Central Indiana Co-op and Ceres Solutions. Following retirement he continued to work during the busy season for Ceres Solutions in Wingate. He spent in excess of 50 years working for the various co-ops. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ and Crawfordsville American Legion Post 72.

Joy was meticulous with their lawn, flowers and garden. He enjoyed his friends at the co-op, the farmers he served, fishing, traveling and his naps! He was a very kind man, quick with a smile, kind words and helpful.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy, is a brother J. Denton (wife Carson) Hoskins of Waynetown and many nieces, nephews as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by the entire community as well. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leonard Burl Hoskins, a niece Linda, a nephew Timothy, and two great-nephews,

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Military rites by Crawfordsville American Legion and VFW Posts and funeral services, with Pastor Doug McCord officiating, will begin immediately following the visitation, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
