IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel Lee
Slifer
December 3, 1956 – December 27, 2024
Daniel Lee 'Dan' Slifer age 68 of rural Rockvile and formerly of the West Point community, passed away at 5:20 PM Friday, December 27, 2024 following a lengthy illness in his home. He was born in Decatur, IL on December 3, 1956 son of the late Franklin Keith and Patricia Myers Silfer. He was married to Debby Davis with whom he had two children.
Dan was a 1974 graduate of Niantic-Harristown High School in Illinois. In his youth he was active in Boys Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Hs spent most of his working years employed as a construction foreman with Kelly Construction in Lafayette, IN. He also enjoyed farming with one of his best friends, Clark Howey of West Point. Clark was one of the last to say goodbye to Dan.
Dan was an outdoorsman…he was an avid hunter, fisherman and 'king of the mushroom hunters'! He loved to sit outside in the evenings by the fire playing with his cats. He and Debby enjoyed throwing tomahawks and knives and playing scrabble.
After moving to Rockville from West Point, Dan became actively involved with AMVETS Club. He served many years as Commander of the Rockville Post 61 Sons of AMVETs. He also served as state commander of Indiana Sons of the AMVETs. Dan was not one to sit idle and had a giving heart. He initiated a program in the Rockville area of designing and installing wheel chair accessible ramps for area Veterans. He worked tirelessly and unselfishly for the local AMVETs Post.
Survivors who will miss him dearly are: his wife Debby, a son; Nicholas Owen (Amber) Slifer, two sisters; Geraldine Dodson and Patricia (Mike) Glaub. Three brothers; Timothy (Angela) Slifer, Douglas Slifer and David (Sherry) Slifer. Also surviving are two granddaughters; Caitlin and Taylor, many nieces, nephews as well as many dear friends he had made along the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Daniel Lee Slifer, Jr. an older brother Franklin K. Slifer Jr. Dan was an outgoing, colorful character who made people happy just being in his presence.
