Obituary

David Hale Legg, age 68 of rural Waynetown, died unexpectedly, in his home, Monday, December 19, 2011. Dave was born in Crawfordsville , August 20, 1943 son of Armor Hale and Edna Louise Smith Kline Legg. They preceded him in death. He was married to Eva Mae Bailey January 15, 1966 in the Waynetown Baptist Church and she survives.

Dave was a 1961 graduate of Waynetown High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He graduated from Purdue University Ag. Winter Short Course and had also taken classes at Ivy Tech. He received certificates in welding and electricity. He also had an Amateur Radio License and his real estate license. Dave was a life-long farmer and had worked off the farm for United Tractor Sales, Wabash College in maintenanceand was a mechanic for Dekalb/Monsanto. But his passion remained in farming and following his retirement he concentrated on working the land. Dave was proud of the eight generation yearly ritual of making Maple Syrup in the Sugar House, first with his grandfather and now Shad Schenck, still on the same family land.

Dave grew up in the Waynetown Basptist Church, attended the Waynetown United Methodist Church and currently attending the Waynetown Christian Union Church. Dave enjoyed dancing and he and his wife belonged to the Sugar Creek Dance Club. Dave was very community minded, active in 4-H as a leader and Horse & Pony Superintendent. The Legg family received the Matthews Award for being the Outstanding 4-H Family. He also belonged to Waynetown JCs, American Legion, helped found the Indiana Two Cylinder Tractor Club, serving as treasurer and currently serving as president of the Montgomery County Pioneer Association.

Dave was an extremely loyal man, who lived for his grandchildren and family. He could fix anything!

Surviving along with his wife Eva are two daughters: Sherry (Jay) Young of Waynetown and Susan (Kevin) Duffy of Pittsboro. A sister Pauline (Arley) Alexander of Waynetown. Five grandchildren: Makhalea, Shane, Autumn, Megan and Katelyn. Also surviving is a community friends who are mourning his loss.

The family will receive guests, 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2011 at the funeral home with Mel Vance officiating. Burial will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
