Romney-David W. Simpson, age 55, died, Saturday, June 6, 2014 unexpectedly in his sleep at his home near New Richmond. He was born February 21, 1959 in Crawfordsville, son of James R. Simpson and the late Mildred Lois Dobbs Simpson. He married Brenda L. Elmore in Crawfordsville on April 17, 1981, she survives.
Dave was a 1977 graduate of Fountain Central High School and he attended National Barber Stylist College in Indianapolis. He has resided in the New Richmond area since 1996. He has barbered the past 32 years and has owned and operated Dave's Cutting Edge in 'The Village' in West Lafayette the past 24 years where he enjoyed cutting the hair of many Purdue athletes and professors and students.
He was a 'free spirit' who enjoyed hunting mushrooms, Purdue sports, his gun collection,, riding his motorcycles, car shows and the family past time of playing Rook. Dave was known for his outgoing personality, he enjoyed joking and lightening the mood. He was an entertaining barber and full of stories, which he shared with his many customers.
Surviving along with his wife Brenda and father James are: a son, Isaiah Simpson (partner Jeff) of Chicago, IL, and daughter Neenah Simpson (partner Noelle) of Bloomington, IN. Brother, James R. (wife Donna) Simpson of Crawfordsville, two sisters: Joyce (husband Charles) Melvin of Waynetown and Donna (husband Reid) Morrow of Crawfordsville. He was preceded in death by his mother.
His family will receive guests, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may best be directed the John Purdue Club to support Boilermaker athletes.
