North Judson – Doris I. Welch Kirkpatrick Gorden age 90, former area resident, died Wednesday morning May 18th at her daughter's home in North Judson following a lengthy illness. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on February 21, 1921 the daughter of James G. and Luema Mae Brown Welch. Doris was raised in the Muncie area and attended Burris High School.
She was first married to Myron Paul Kirkpatrick in 1939, they farmed in the Coatsville area and he died as a result of a farm/bulldozer accident, February 18, 1955. Following his death, Doris operated a Singer Sewing Machine/fabric shop in Crawfordsville, then the Sew Handy Shop in Greencastle. She moved to Florida for a time and returned to Indiana. Her second marriage was to William Gorden on January 18th, 1963 in Rural Retreat, VA, he preceded her in death in 2004. While living in Virginia she operated a fabric shop. She returned to Indiana in 2008 moving to North Judson. Doris was a talented seamstress, had been a member or the Order of Eastern Star, United Methodist Church and most recently was attending a Baptist Church. Doris had made four pilgrimages to the Holy Lands of which she was very proud.
Surviving are a son: Myron Paul Kirkpatrick of Attica, Three daughters: Ruth (husband Ralph) Stewart of Martinsville, IL, Wanda (husband Clifford) Bonnell of North Judson and Gloria Claborne of Roseville, MI. A sister Ivah Goodwin of Muncie, 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three brothers, eight sisters and two great-grandsons.
