Veedersburg – Dorothy B. Kirby McMurtrie, 89 of rural Veedersburg, died, 9:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016 in her daughter's home, with whom she had been living. She had been in failing health the past several months. Dorothy was born August 21, 1927 near Kramer, daughter of the late Russell and Stella Solomon Kirby. She married Harold McMurtrie in the Newtown Baptist Church, August 15, 1964 and he preceded her in death October 16, 1996.

Dorothy attended Attica schools and helped her family on the farm where she was raised. Following her marriage to Harold, she became a hardworking farmwife. She also had worked many years at RMC in Attica. She was a member of the Attica Assembly of God Church. Her greatest love was her family and her greatest treasures were her grandchildren who she gladly babysat for to help out. She also enjoyed mushroom hunting.

Surviving are; a son: William R. 'Bob' (Brenda) Stonebraker of Attica, a daughter: Jean (Denny) Jones of rural Veedersburg; a Step-daughter Sheila (Fred) Steele of Crawfordsville two step-sons: Dean (Dianne) McMurtrie of Clarks Hill and John (Pam) McMurtrie of Colfax. A sister; Sharla (Gill) Blythe Quinones of Stockland, CA. Also surviving are: 13 Grandchildren, 20 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great-grandchild and 8 Step-grandchildren, 10 Great-step-grandchildren, 4 Great-great step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a step-granddaughter Jennifer and siblings Clifford and Robert Kirby, Margaret Bell, Marilyn Clawson, Geraldine Gillispie, Gwen Allen and Jennie Bennett.

Visitation hours are 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ben Day officiating. Private family inurnment will occur at a later date in Old Baptist Cemetery near Newtown.
