Obituary

Veedersburg – Dorthy F. 'Dot' Taylor Hougland age 78, died at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in Willamsburg Health Care, Crawfordsville, where she had resided the past two years. Dot had struggled with Alzheimer's for the past several years. Dot was born in Warren County, July 6, 1933 the daughter of the late Herman and Delta Taylor. She was married to Gene O. Hougland, June 7, 1953 in West Lebanon, he survives. She graduated from West Lebanon High School.

Dot was employed by Dri-All Driers for several years, before leaving to farm full-time with her husband. They moved to the Newtown-Mellott area in 1964 and began farming for John and Bea Kell. They grew their farming operation and continued farming full-time until just a few years ago. She was actively involved in farming and maintained meticulously, her home and farmsteads, She was a long time member of the Newtown Community Church and helped in various organizations and clubs while active in the church.

Surviving along with her husband Gene are. Twin daughters: Charol (Jim) Ellingwood of Wallace and Carol (Dave) Forkner of Conyers, GA. Sisters: Linda (Ralph) Burmeister of Danville, IL, Clara (Ron) Crawford of Monticello, IN, Edith (Don) Davis, Alice Hutchinson, Lois Hensley, and Carolyn (Bill) Hale all of Covington, IN. Brothers: Jack (Janet) Taylor and Vernon (Dora) Taylor both of Williamsport and Joe ((Susie) Taylor of Covington. A sister-in-law Mary Kathryn (Dwight) Cox of Crawfordsville. Grandchildren: Lea Ellingwoood of Indianapolis, Amy Ellingwood of Wallace, Luke Ellingwood of San Diego, CA, Kyle (Tiffany) Forkner of Odenton, MD, Jared (Jarett) Forkner of Atlanta, GA. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Dora Lou, a sister Barbara Rowe, and brother Calvin Taylor.

Gene and Dot fully lived out their wedding vows: In sickness and in health…till death do us part.

Her family will receive guests 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington.
