Brookston – Edward Wayne Hooker, age 73, passed away at 8:44 PM, Friday, June 14, 2019 in Kindred Hospital Indianapolis North. He was born in Lafayette, April 14, 1946, son of the late Mary L. Robinson Hooker and Harold W. Hooker. He married Laura Jean 'Sam' Props, November 7, 1981 in the Brookston United Methodist Church and she survives.
Ed grew up on a farm west of Francesville, attended Gillam Grade School and graduated from Francesville High School with the class of 1964. He served with the Indiana National Guard from 1964-1970. Ed always liked nice cars, especially fast cars. Following high school he worked a few years in the 'steel mills' until he was hired by the old Monon Rail Road (The Hoosier Line). He was then an 'engineer' for L & N Rail Road and retired after 40 years from CSX Transportation. He belonged to the 'Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers'. Ed enjoyed football especially the Indianapolis Colts, 'March Madness' and Purdue sports!
Surviving along with his wife 'Sam' of Brookston, are: his father; Harold W. Hooker of Francesville. Sons: Neal (Lyndsay) Hooker, Greenwood, Chad (Kati) Hooker, Delphi. A sister Connie (Tim) Sullivan of Ridgeville, IN. Grandsons, Cooper & Cole. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary, grandparents Otto & Julia Hooker.
Visitation hours are 4:00 – 6:00 PM Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Faith West Church Community Center (1920 Northwestern Ave. West Lafayette, 47906) with funeral services following the visitation at 6:00 PM at the church with Pastors from Faith officiating. Cremation will follow the services and private family inurnment at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Loving Hearts Animal Shelter, Lafayette. Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate is handling arrangements for the family. Visit us at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guest book or leave a condolence.
