Esther Anne Northquist Booe age 80 of Crawfordsville and formerly of Hillsboro, died Wednesday morning, November 16, 2016 in the ER of Franciscan Health Hospital Crawfordsville. She was born in Terre Haute, June 17, 1936 daughter of the late Wilbur and Margaret Brown Northquist. She married Charles W. Booe on February 14, 1971 in Terre Haute and he survives.
Esther graduated from Garfield High School in Terre Haute and received her RN from Union Hospital School of Nursing in conjunction with ISU. She attended post-graduate training in 'Specialty Care of Premature Infants' from the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, NJ. She was employed at Union Hospital in Terre Haute and then became Head Nurse of the newborn nursery unit at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for 10 years. She was very proud of her nursing career and the hundreds of babies for which she cared over the years,
Following their marriage, Esther retired from nursing and moved to the family farm near Hillsboro. Esther enjoyed reading and working on her computer, which kept her in touch with her many friends from high school and college. She also enjoyed feeding and watching birds, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandsons and family. She belonged to Alumnae of Union Hospital School of Nursing, Alumnae of ISU, Maple Avenue United Methodist Church in Terre Haute and Hillsboro Christian Church.
Surviving along with her husband Charles are: a daughter Nancy (Steve) Meyer and grandsons, Christopher and Sean Meyer of Fishers, a brother; Marty (Susie) Northquist of Lafayette, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be noon – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bonnie Shoaf officiating. Interment will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Maple Ave. United Methodist Church or Dr. Charles Combs Nursing Scholarship % ISU School of Nursing.
