Gloria Ruth Whitlow Padgett, 91, passed away peacefully at her son's home at 8:45 PM Monday, September 29, 2025. She lived in the Romney community for 46 years and lived with her son the past 33 months. She was born in Kentucky, September 6, 1934 to the late George P. Whitlow and Erma G. Whitlow Hawkins. She married Martin L. Padgett September 22, 1951 and he proceeded her in death April 22, 2013. Her unwavering love and faith guided her through life and helped her to instill her religious values in her family.
She attended Linden High School and following her marriage she was a stay at home Mom, caring for her family, garden and flowers. For a time she enjoyed the experience of working at the Lafayette Adult Day School. Gloria was a devoted member of the Linden Baptist Church from age 7 until it closed in 2011.
Gloria was a kind, family and faith oriented woman of God. She was a beautiful, loving, accepting, non-judgmental, person who wouldn't let you leave without a big hug! She loved her grandchildren, Bible and flowers.
She leaves behind a loving son, who was also her caregiver, Gary L. Padgett of rural Lafayette, her sister June Martin (Joseph) of Sarasota, FL, and daughter-in-law Dianna Padgett of Rockville. She doted over her many grandchildren, Heather Padgett Abney, Brandy Bennington, Dawn Padgett McKinney (Brandon), Amber Padgett Alexander (Shawn), Micah Padgett Church (Mike), Stephanie Padgett Perkins (Darin), Marty Padgett, Matthew Padgett, Maranatha Padgett Woodard (Brad), Maria Padgett, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Martin L. Padgett, two sons; Steven L. Padgett & Dale D. Padgett, Mother, Erma G. Hawkins, and several brothers & sisters.
Visitation hours are 2:00 – 4:00 PM Friday, October 3, 2025. Funeral service follows at 4:00 PM with Pastor J.D. Bowman officiating, at The Ingathering Church, Linden. Graveside services/ burial will follow in Linden Cemetery. Memorial contributions are preferred to the Veterans Memorial Park, Crawfordsville.
