Attica – Ivan Reid Pitzer, age 96, passed away on the family farm 5:40 AM, Friday, July 6, 2018, following a short illness.  Reid was born in Shawnee Township in rural Fountain County to the late Lawrence and Sarah Auter Pitzer.  He married Anita June Hawley in Attica on July 20, 1946 and she preceded him in death on August 19, 1998.

He attended Rob Roy Grade School, was a 1940 graduate of Attica High School, and attended Hoosier Boy's State in June, 1940.  Reid was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed raising cattle.  He was proud to have selected and raised three grand champion steers shown by his daughter at the Fountain County 4-H Fair.  He served a term as a Fountain County Councilman, was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church, and a member of Attica Investment Club in the 1960's.

Reid loved time with his family.  He enjoyed playing cards and watching sporting events.  Until his health failed, he was an avid golfer and was proud to have hit two 'holes in one' in his career: one at Oak Ford Golf Course in Sarasota. FL, in March 1996 and at Big Pine Golf Course at age 81.   Reid never met a stranger and treated everyone as a friend.  His outgoing, gregarious manner endeared him to all he met.  Many of the younger generation often commented, "they wanted to grow up and be like Reid."

Surviving are a daughter, Sally (Neil) Remaklus, of Attica and  grandchildren Abby (Joseph) Kerkhove of Phoenix, AZ, and Joseph (Kristen) Remaklus of Attica.  Great-grandchildren: Max and Sam Kerkhove and Abe Remaklus.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife June.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 PM,  Friday, July 27, 2018,  at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate with funeral services, 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 28, 2018,  at the funeral home with Chad Smith officiating .  Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Attica.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Attica Alumni Association.  To share a memory or leave a condolence, visit us at www.familyandfriendsfh.com
