Obituary

James H. Hendrick, 76 of Tavares, FL, formerly of Crawfordsville and the Newtown area, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 8, 2012 in Gainsville, FL. He was born September 13, 1936 in Moline, Illinois, son of Viola Adams Hendrick, she preceded him in death. He married Mary Jane Helms on April 10, 1970 at Veedersburg and she survives.

As a young man Jim dropped out of high school to work and become the provider and care for his mother and siblings. He was well read and later earned his GED. In 1962 he went to work for the rail road and began his career as a laborer. Thirty two years later he retired as a Project Engineer with ConRail Rail Road. He was highly regarded and served as a mentor to many who would work with him.

Jim was a member of the Adventure Christian Church in Tavares, FL. He was formerly a member of the Newtown Community Church and taught Sunday School. In his spare time he enjoyed computer repair, a skill he taught himself, also he enjoyed fishing, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Jim lived his whole life for his kids.

Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Mary Jane; Sons, William Hendrick and Joseph (Vicki) Hendrick both of Crawfordsville, IN; Daughters, Ruth Hendrick of Clearwater, FL; Tamela (Mike) Riessman, Williamsport, IN; DeAnna (Scott)McManomy of Newtown, IN; Cathy (Tim)Lyons, Veedersburg, IN; and Jama(Travis) Abney of Crawfordsville, IN; Sisters, Ann (Richard) Stahr of St. Charles, MO; Mary (Art)Runyon of Bloomington, IL; and Judy Hendrick of Nokomis, IL; 19 Grandchildren and 25 Great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, three brothers, Lou, Tom, and Paul and grandson Chad Simmons.

A memorial service celebrating the life of James Hendrick will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Whitesville Christian Church, 3603 S. Ladoga Rd., Crawfordsville, IN 47933 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Whitacre officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 until time of service. Inurnment will be in Newtown Cemetery, Newtown, IN following the service with Pastor Tim Lyons officiating. Memorial contributions may best be directed to Whitesville Christian Church.
