Obituary

Jerry Janssen 74 of Wingate, passed away at 4:00 AM Monday, January 24 in his home following a lengthy illness.  Jerry was born in Lafayette, IN February 25, 1947 son of the late Harry and Edith Lorene Thomas Janssen.  He married Susan Beedle Howell in Wingate, July 1, 2000 and she survives.

Jerry was a graduate of Otterbein High School and served with the US Navy 1966-1970 serving in Vietnam on the USS Coral Sea as an aircraft mechanic.  Returning from the service he had several jobs, he enjoyed helping friends on the farm and was employed at Eli Lily.  He and Susan operated a small excavating and commercial  mowing business serving the Montgomery-Fountain County areas, until his health failed a year ago.  Jerry was a hard worker, and would give anyone in need a hand.

Surviving along with his wife Susan are: a daughter, April (Ryan) Teel of West Lafayette; two sons, Brandon Janssen of the Phillipines,  Patrick Janssen of Lafayette.  Sons of his wife who he helped raise:  Brian, Patrick, Michael (Paige) & Phillip Howell.  Nine grandchildren.  Siblings: his twin brother Joe (Rhonda) Janssen of West Lafayette & Bruce (Joyce) Janssen of Otterbein Tommy (Mary) Janssen of Lake Jackson, two sisters; Sandy (Gene) Brummet of Otterbein, Sharon Eberle of Otterbein.  Also surviving are Susan's family he was very close with; her father and step-mother Richard & Dede Beedle of Crawfordsville, her sister Jerri Beard (Mark Nelson) of Goshen, Kentucky, Rich (Gunilla) Beedle of Indianapolis and Trisha (Markus) Maroney Of Ft. Collins, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Janssen, brother-in-law Ed Eberle.

Visitation hours are noon - 2:30 PM Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Family and Friends of Wingate with funeral services immediately following at 2:30 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating.  Military honors by the US Navy and Crawfordsville American Legion/VFW Honor Guard.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wingate.  Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed to Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ, Pleasant Hill Cemetery or Greenlawn Cemetery.  Visit us at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guest book or share a condolence.
