Jimmie D. Bishop, age 81, of Waynetown, passed away unexpectedly at 4:41 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in the ER of Franciscan St. E. Hospital, Crawfordsville. He was born in Garvin County, Oklahoma, August 3, 1937 to the late J.P. and Della Griffis Bishop. He married Nancy L. Horrocks in Waynetown, May 17, 1975 and she survives.
Jimmie was a graduate of Bowers High School and was considered the best softball player at Bowers! He served with the U.S. Navy, June 1955 – November 1958 and retired from Raybestos as a 'Cost Estimator' after 42 years of employment. Jimmie had been a member of the Wabash Club of Raybestos and formerly attended the Waynetown Christian Church. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, feeding/watching birds and tending to the stray cats in Waynetown. He was a Purdue fan and his family accommodated him by watching the 'Boilers' with him.
Surviving with his wife Nancy are: Four sons: Donnie (Sylvia) Bishop of NC, Greg Bishop and Kris Bishop both of Crawfordsville and Mike (Violeta) Trinkle of Texas. Four daughters: Vicki Archer of Ohio, Deb Brown of Waynetown, Susan (Dan) Smith of NC and Kathy Ryker of Waynetown. A sister, Carol Crull of Darlington, two brothers; Don (Cathy) Irvin of FL and Terry Bishop of CA. Many grand-and great-grandchildren survive, including his 'lifeline' Cory and Ryan Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents J.P. Bishops and Della Griffis Bishop Irvin, Gayle Irvin and grandson Matthew.
Visitation hours are 1:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with funeral services beginning at 3:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Seth Stultz officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to Montgomery County Animal Welfare League. Interment will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
