Obituary

John E. Galloway, Sr. age 83 of rural New Richmond, passed away at 6:55 AM Monday, December 1, 2025 in Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville.  He was born in Lafayette September 19, 1942 son of the late Leslie and Evangeline Sutherlin Galloway.  He married Donna Kaye Clark February 16, 1963 in Indianapolis and she preceded him in death July 6, 2024.

John was a 1960 graduate of Jefferson High School in Lafayette and attended the former Porter Business College in Indianapolis.  His first position was with Alcoa in Lafayette, he then became a licensed insurance agent with Bankers Life and Casualty Co.  He took a sales position with the 3M Company in Minneapolis, MN.  He quickly advanced to a sales manager, district sales manager, regional sales manager, then became National Sales Manager, until he took a positon in Human Resources in the company headquarters.  At age 40 he retired from 3M and established a 3M Retail Dealership in Duluth, MN which he sold after 5 years.  He bought a fishing resort on Bowstring Lake near Deer River, MN and operated it for 5 years, then bought and operated the Bemidji Raceway in Bemidji, MN which he operated for 2 years.  John and Donna moved  to Florida and he gave sight-seeing plane rides over the Everglades and shelling tours on the Gulf beaches.  Indiana called him home and he established Linden South Auto Sales with his brother Larry.  He along with his son and daughter-in-law created a convenience store, Romney Auto Stop, which they operated for 5 years.  John also established Wabash River Tours where he offered Airboat rides on the river, then switching to a jet boat.  He and his family also operated 'Zipline Adventures' which was a mobile zipline, for three years.  John was constantly on the move and loved the challenge of creating a new business venture.

John was a colorful, interesting man…a certified boat Captain, Certified Flight Instructor, had his Scuba license, raced airplanes, member of the Indy Racing League and was a timer and scorer at the Indy 500.  He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assn. and belonged to the Lafayette Cloud Jockeys.  He raced Sprints, Midgets and Stock Cars in the Midwest.  While in Duluth he ice-raced on Lake Superior in VW Sciroccos and VW Rabitts.  He was the International Ice Racing Champion in 1984!

Surviving are a daughter, Natalie (Peter) Olive of Shakopee, MN and John (Sandy) Galloway, Jr. of rural New Richmond.  Grandchildren Matthew Olive of Shakopee, MN, Ryan (Kim) Galloway of Indianapolis and Chelsea Galloway of New Richmond.  He is also survived by numerous cousins.  He was preceded in death by his wife Donna, parents, brother Larry and niece Cecilia.
