John Martin Gilkey, 90, of Kettering, Ohio quietly passed away March 31, 2014 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He was born in Wingate, Indiana to Mildred (Martin) and Harlan Gilkey, he worked on the family farm until graduating from Wingate High School in 1942.

John served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps from January 1943 to October 1945, he left the service as a 2 ^nd Lieutenant.  He graduated from Purdue University in 1947 with a degree in electrical engineering. Shortly after graduation, John married Martha Webb and moved to Kettering, Ohio.  While living in Kettering, John worked for the Dayton Power and Light Company as an electrical engineer for 35 years and then for the University of Dayton, directing the Engineering Cooperative Education program for 5 years.  In 2011 John and Martha moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia to be near their daughter. John was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Engineers Club and the American Business Club.

John is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Martha; two children, Gregg Gilkey and Terri (Steve) Damon; and five grandchildren, Meghan (Jared) Friesen, Abigail (Darrell) Blanks, Mallory (Brad) Theiss, Gwen Gilkey and Alex (Mollie) Damon and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 10-11 AM at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, followed by funeral services at 11 AM at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wingate,  Indiana.   Donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd., Kettering, Ohio 45429.
