Holman
November 12, 1939 – May 18, 2020
Crawfordsville – John W. Holman age 80, received his wings at 6:34 PM Monday, May 18, 2020 in his home surrounded by family. He had been in failing health. He was born in Crawfordsville in Culver Hospital, November 12, 1939 to the late Russell and Ethel Mae Hudson Holman. He was married to Patti Biggs on June 4, 1961 in the Waynetown Methodist Church and she survives.
John was a 1957 graduate of Waynetown High School and served with the Army Reserves. He retired as a supervisor after 39 years with RR Donnelly. John had also furthered his education and became a Licensed Real Estate Broker. He was associated with ReMax from 1996-2008.
John was a well known, 'Modern Square Dance Caller' for 50 years. He loved to 'call' square dances and was a member of Sugar Creek Squares, Lafayette Fun Squares and numerous other square dance groups. He enjoyed woodworking, playing Euchre, Knock and Rummy. He demanded his family show respect to all and expected you to 'close a door, if you opened it'! John was a kind man and enjoyed life.
Surviving along with his wife Patti are: two daughters, Amy (Mike) Claycomb of New Richmond and Stacey (Cary) Coffing of Radcliff, KY. A brother: James (Kay) Holman of Crawfordsville. Grandchildren: Amber Holman Albright, Hope Holman, Jared Brenda, Caleb Coffing, Jonathon Coffing, Brayton Claycomb. Great-grandchildren: Taelyn Albright, Brantley Albright. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Kirk Holman.
A 'drive by visitation' will be held, 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, under the east portico. John's family will be present to greet guests. Social distancing is suggested of the guests, with no touching, hugging or leaving your vehicles please. Memorial contributions may directed to The Montgomery County Boys and Girls Club.
