John Michael McLain, 70, of Frankton, IN, passed away on November 11, 2025. He was born on May 15, 1955, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Helen Kell McLain VanHook and Henry McLain. In 1956, the family moved to Anderson, Indiana.
Mike's schooling was completed at Madison Heights High School and classes at Ball State University. As a young boy, he loved the outdoors and playing with his brother and sisters in the woods by the creek. There were many weekends enjoyed with the family at campsites and sitting around a burning campfire. He enjoyed his time fishing and being outside enjoying nature. He spent many days at his Wisconsin cabin, fishing from his boat on the Menominee River with family and friends.
He and his wife, Rose Mary Monroe, have enjoyed a life living in the area of Knoxville, Tennessee, and in the peaceful woods of Indiana near Elwood.
Mike began his career in lawn care with Chemlawn, later co-owed Evergreen Lawn Care with Tom Hall in Tennessee, which later sold to Scotts Lawn Care. He then became District Manager of Truegreen Lawn Care in Indianapolis.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Rose; his daughter, Elizabeth McLain; son, Jacob (Allie) McLain; step-children, Gentry (Jen) DeMent, Sarah (Daniel) Berry, and Donny DeMent; grandchildren, Jacklyn Blount, Gregory Davidson, Kade, Arahia, and Kyle McLain, Abbey, Kate, Ella, and Camden; mother, Helen VanHook; sister, Sharon McClintock; brother, Stephen McLain; brother-in-law, Denis (Michelle) Jarvinen; and many nieces and nephews.
He has greatly missed his sister, Kathleen McLain Jarvinen, who passed in 2010; as well as his father, Henry McLain; grandparents, John and Bea Kell; and nephew, Dwayne Daniels.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013. Services will follow visitation at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Chaplain Dave Eastman officiating.
The family will have an additional visitation and service on Monday, November 17, 2025, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with services to follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Burial will take place in Meharry Cemetery, Wingate, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Frankton Volunteer Fire Department.
