IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce H.
Ross
February 25, 1939 – January 11, 2021
Joyce Helen Alexander Ross of West Lafayette, passed on January 11, 2021. She will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends. Joyce was married in 1958 and raised three boys (Randy, John and Tony) in Romney, Indiana in the early 60's. During her time in Romney, she was employed at Ag Alumni Seed Company where she eventually achieved the title of Office Manager in the 70's. Her boys were always a priority in her life, and in turn, they always stood by her.
After her boys were raised, Joyce transitioned into work in the mental health field before retiring. In retirement, Joyce continued to live on the Tippecanoe River. Many summer afternoons were spent on canoe adventures, especially with her three grandsons. After a tragic flood severely damaged her home and destroyed much of her belongings, Joyce was undaunted and started again in West Lafayette. Living near the university, she enjoyed the proximity to the life around a college campus. Joyce also enjoyed volunteer work and became a member of the New Chauncey Neighborhood Association Board of Directors.
Her family will remember Joyce as being a very influential part of their lives, a fighter for the less fortunate and down trodden. As one of her many sisters said of Joyce, "Few people are as strong, compassionate, passionate and loving as Joyce. I respected her grit and generosity. In light of all that she fought through in her life, she was simply extraordinary." Joyce's family is thankful to her sister Carole for her care, which allowed Joyce additional time to remain in her home. Also, thanks to the support of family and friends, too numerous to note in this remembrance, who gave their time and efforts to support Joyce. Additional thanks and appreciation to the hard working nurses who cared for Joyce in her last days at Lafayette Franciscan Hospital.
Joyce requested no public services. Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate is assisting her family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to New Chauncey Neighborhood Association in West Lafayette or to the Loving Heart Animal Shelter in Lafayette.
