Keith Wayne Springer, age 70, of Delphi, passed away, at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 following a lengthy illness. He was born January 10, 1947 in Yountsville, son of the late Lester and Ida Olena (Hibbs) Springer. His father died when he was 9 and he was raised by his step-father, the late Howard Wisma. He was married to Jill Ann Oxley in the Wingate Methodist Church, on July 5, 1970 and she survives.
Keith was a 1965 graduate of Coal Creek Central High School and Ivy Tech with an AS in Electronics. He served in the US Navy from 1965-1969. He retired after 32 years of employment with GTE later Verizon in Lafayette, Portage and Ft. Wayne. He was a switchman and later a supervisor. He and Jill have resided in Delphi the past 15 years, previously living in Lafayette and Ft. Wayne. Keith had formerly been a member of the Communication Workers Union and served as president of the local chapter. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lafayette.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking and anything related to Indiana University sports! Keith was easy-going, dependable, understanding, and hardworking brother, husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving along with his wife, Jill, are: a son, Seth Jared (Cheryl) Springer of Plainfield, CT. Two daughters, Megan Joy (Dan) Holbrook and Mendy (Raul) Valdez both of Lafayette. Six grandchildren: Macyn Holbrook, Noah Springer, Lily Valdez, Naya Valdez, Eli Springer and Cruz Valdez. A brother, Kenneth Lee (Helen) Springer, of Yountsville also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father.
Visitation hours are, 10:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. (noon) with funeral services following at noon, with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating, Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, 9700 North State Road 55, Wingate, 47994. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wingate.
