Lafayette - Lester Andrew 'Andy' Hauck, age 91, passed away in his home in Lafayette, Friday, April 14, 2017. He was born to Cecelia Waggal and Lester Hauck in Cincinnati, OH on April 6, 1926. He married Cynthia Jo Raub and she survives.
He was a 'Electronic Technician Mate' in the Navy, and achieved a B.S. at Hanover College, and worked as a teacher, athletic coach, electrical engineer, and carpenter. His first job was teacher and coach for Williamsport High School, Williamsport Indiana.
Andy attended Hartwell Elementary / High school in Cincinnati, OH, a school that is still thriving. Throughout his childhood, Andy looked forward to spending Summers helping his Grandfather Waggal on his farm. He was introduced to beekeeping there as he helped his grandmother extract honey from comb which they put into quart jars. Andy himself took up beekeeping in 1968. He studied bees, taught about them, and harvested honey for decades. At one point he became President of the Maryland Beekeeping Association. The harmony between humans and bees illustrate Andy's view of man's place in his world, as overseer, caretaker, and beneficiary. To his delight, his elder son, Brian, is a successful beekeeper in Arkansas.
Patience, true acceptance of others, each according to his bent, was foundational for Andy. Without trying, he helped many others find themselves and their capabilities in order to live happier lives.
Andy was a natural musician, singing and playing piano, trumpet, baritone horn, guitar and recorder at different times. He was an accomplished athlete, excelling in track and football. Anyone who knew Andy's "Mr. Natural" lifestyle would not be surprised that he happily and fully lived to age 91.
Andy is survived by wife, Cynthia, by sons Brian Andrew Hauck of Arkansas, Randal Aaron Hauck of Lafayette, and William Dupont Seidel of Baltimore as well as many grandchildren. In celebrating Andy's passing we are rejoicing, welcoming and celebrating the arrival of a great grandson born the same day of Andy's passing.
In lieu of a formal funeral service, Andy and his family celebrated his life prior to his passing. Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate is assisting his family with arrangements
