Obituary

Lloyd Eldon Philpott, 85, passed away Thursday, Nov.16, 2017, at Mulberry Health Center.
Born to Glen and Ava Philpott, Oct. 4, 1932, the last of their eight children. He was raised in Marshall, Indiana.
After high school, he married Virginia Nunn in 1951 and they were blessed with six children, Gene (Wanda), Dean (Deb), Bill (Leatha Owen), Cynthia, Scott (Cindy) & Valerie (Bob) Guenther.
He fought a battle with Polio as a young adult, and after being advised by the medical team that he may never walk again, he bounced back to lead a productive life. He was a fighter. If he was ever told he couldn't do something, he was going to figure a way to do it, if for no other reason than to just show you that he could. He was proud of those accomplishments.
After nearly 38 years of service, Lloyd retired from Ross-Gear in Lafayette. During his career there, he worked as a machinist operating a CNC lathe.
Over the years, a great number of his co-workers, friends, family and neighbors visited his garage at his home in Romney. He did tune-ups and various other auto repair jobs. Lloyd was ingenious and possessed a mind that could create tools and solve problems with all things mechanical. A trait he passed down to his boys as they worked beside him in the garage.
Lloyd loved dogs and had many who were his cherished companions. His last dog, Minnie, was cremated after her passing and she will be buried with him.
He was mischievous with a quick wit. He was good at turning a phrase and seeing the humor in everyday situations (another trait he passed down to his children). Lloyd also was a fairly simple man, not wanting or needing of fancy material things.
Friends and family alike will remember that while speaking with Lloyd most anytime on the phone, he would often end the conversation while reminding you of his birthday ----- 10.4.
He is preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings; Rowena, Donald (Thelma), Ena (Jim) Elmore, E. Laverne, Carroll (Ruby), Max (Ilona), and Lois (Fred) Melvin. Also by his infant daughter Cynthia and very recently by a granddaughter: Stacy, a grandson: Jody, and his eldest son, Gene.
Visitation hours are, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2017, with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with Robert Guenther officiating. Burial will follow at Alamo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to a local animal shelter in memory of Lloyd Philpott.
