Margaret Ann (Meharry) Horn went home on September 1, 2026.

She was born in Lafayette, Indiana on June 10, 1941 to Hugh Sayers and Helen Christine (Whitehead) Meharry. She graduated from Southwestern High School and also attended Indianapolis Travel School.

She married Ronald L. Horn, her grade school sweetheart, at Jackson Heights United Methodist Church. Margaret and Ron shared 65 years of marriage, building a life together centered on family, faith, hard work and the land they loved. Margaret farmed alongside her husband and also owned and operated Black Creek Driving Range. She worked for many years at JCPenney and Durham Home, as well as at many other part-time jobs throughout her life.

Margaret was a woman of character and deep faith, reflecting not only the beliefs she held to, but how she lived. She enjoyed serving on many committees and holding various positions at her church. She was a member of Mount Zion Church, Wea Plains Wednesday Club and Pythian Sisters.

Family and friends were at the heart of Margaret’s life. She especially found great happiness in having family gathered around her, and she loved welcoming friends for meals, conversation, and always had time for a game of cards. Some of her favorite pastimes included reading, music, and riding snowmobiles.

Margaret and Ron also loved to travel. Together they visited many places, including Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and Italy, and traveled to all but two of the United States. They even enjoyed a few minutes of fame as extras in the movie Hoosiers.

Margaret is survived by her four much loved children: Sheila (Gene) Truncellito of Lawrenceville, New Jersey; Jeffrey Horn of Lafayette; David (Kim) Horn of Crawfordsville; and Anita (Rodney) Carpenter of Newtown, Connecticut.

She is also survived by 11 treasured grandchildren: J. Clayton, James, Jonathon, Zack, Joshua Horn, Eva Stortini, Alex (Oak), Marianna, John Carpenter, Olivia Love and Victoria Foutch; her great-grandchildren, Conner, Jackson, Tyler, Jacob, Madelyn, Caleb, Zayden, Katrina, Zayleigh and Seraphina; plus six bonus great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her dear sister, Patricia (Ed) McNeil of Lafayette, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ron; her parents; her sister, Ada Dean; and her daughter-in-law, Sheila C. Horn.

Margaret had a gift for making people feel at home. No matter how much time had passed between visits, her guests knew they would always be welcomed with the familiar invitation, “Come on home again when you can—a room will be ready for you.”

That same sense of homecoming was at the heart of Margaret’s faith. She lived with the hope that one day she, too, would hear the invitation from Jesus that she had so often extended to others: “Come on home—your room is ready.”

Calling will be Friday, September 11, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Mount Zion Church, 2131 W. Black Creek Valley Road, Crawfordsville, Indiana, with calling one hour prior to the service. Family and Friends Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the family plot at Meharry Cemetery in Wingate, Indiana.
