Obituary

Margaret E. Hutson Fisher Starkey, age 96, formerly of Tonica, IL passed away at 2:35 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2026 in Williamsport Health and Rehab.

Margaret was born on April 4, 1930 in Covington, IN. One of twelve children, she was the daughter of Harry V. and Daisy U. (Harding) Hutson and was raised in Veedersburg, IN.

Margaret married the love of her life, Robert Fisher, in 1950. Together they had a son Derek Fisher. Robert passed away September 23, 1955. Margaret went on to marry Harry Starkey and had two more children, Jeff Starkey and Stephanie Starkey.

Margaret lived in many places over the years, including Indiana, Texas, and Illinois. She settled in Tonica, Illinois to be near her children. She was a member of the Tonica United Methodist Church.

Margaret was always happy to see friends and family. She was always quick to offer you a smile, cup of coffee, or a cold Coke. She had a way of expressing joy in the simplest things and tried her hardest to keep up with everybody. She loved saving newspaper clippings of family or friends’ achievements and milestones. Every time you stopped in to see her she would ask about you, your children, your pets, and remembered all of them by name.

Margaret was preceded by her parents; her first husband Robert Fisher; eight siblings; sons, Derek Fisher and Jeff Starkey; and daughter-in-law Nancy Starkey.

She is survived by her sister, Carson Hoskins; daughter, Stephanie Starkey; grandchildren, Mike (Joey) Fisher, Erica (Jason) Rayfield, Matthew Redshaw, Rebekah (Justin) Holder, and Angela Starkey. She was also blessed with 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be on Friday May 22, 2026 at Family & Friends Funeral Home in Wingate from 12:00 p.m. until funeral service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Brad Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Fountain/Warren Master Gardener Association, 102 S Warren St, West Lebanon, IN 47991.
