Wingate – Mark K. Shepherd age 59 of rural Wingate, died at 5:45 A.M. Monday, April 19, 2010 in his home. He had battled cancer the past several years. He was born in Danville, IL November 14, 1950 the son of Lena Baird Shepherd of Veedersburg and the late Marion Willis Shepherd. On August 11, 1974 he married Jackie Mitchell in Newtown and she survives.

Mark graduated from Turkey Run High School in 1968 and Lincoln Tech in 1970. He had farmed in the Wingate/Newtown area for the past 25 years and had previously been a welder at Dri-All near Attica.
He was a member of the Newtown Community Church, member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge 385 Hillsboro and a member of Scottish Rite Terre Haute. Mark enjoyed time with his family/grandchildren, farming, collecting toy farm equipment.

Mark is survived by his wife Jackie, a daughter Angie (companion Chadd Cheshier) Shepherd of Whitestown, a son Michael (wife Jennifer) Shepherd of Wingate, his mother Lena Shepherd of Veedersburg, mother-in-law Mary Kay Mitchell, Wingate, sister-in-law Pam (husband Max) Weaver of
Minden, NE. Three grandchildren: Mackenzie, (twins) Katelyn & Mitchell Shepherd. He was preceded in
Death by his father and father-in-law Bill Mitchell with whom he started farming. 'Shep' is also survived by a community full of people proud to call him a friend.

The family will greet guests on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 4 – 8p.m. at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, a Masonic service will follow the visitation at 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate with Pastor Mike Parks officiating, with burial to follow in Meharry Cemetery north of Wingate.
