Romney – Marsha K. Verhey Applegate, age 65, died following a battle with cancer, Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in her home. She was born in Lafayette September 15, 1949, daughter of Barbara Lester Verhey and the late Harry Verhey. She was formerly married to Robert Applegate.

Marsha was a 1967 graduate of Coal Creek Central High School. She retired as a Physical Therapist Assistant at St. Elizabeth Hospital (Fanciscan Alliance). Previously, she had been employed at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Heritage Healthcare in Lafayette and Ag. Alumni Seeds, Romney.

She was an active member of Christ Church in Lafayette, where she was involved with the Lady's Organization, involved with visiting and assisting others. Marsha had a giving heart and thoroughly enjoyed assisting others. She cherished time with her family and enjoyed her trips to Hawaii with friends. As part of her helpful nature, her 'spotless' home was often shared with friends and students.

Survivors include: Her mother, Barbara Lester Verhey of Wingate; daughter, Angel (Brandon) Fulk of Lafayette; a son, Thomas M. (Shelly) Applegate of Ohio; sons, Jonas and Jesse Byrer; a stepdaughter Donna Applegate; a sister, Marlena Verhey of Coatsville; three brothers, Marvin Verhey of Danville, IN, Mike (Cindy) Verhey of Attica, Marlin (Denise) of Lafayette. Grandchildren: Jordan and Payton Fulk, Alex, Zach and Lily Applegate. Preceding her in death were, father Harry, a brother Melvin Verhey and stepdaughter Patricia Applegate.

Visitation hours for Marsha are, 5:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, Sunday, November 23, 2014 with Pastors Chris Black and Tom Branham officiating, burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wingate.
