Martha Jean (Webb) Gilkey, 93, formerly of Kettering, Ohio passed away at 10:15 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at her residence at Delmar Gardens in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She was born February 15, 1925 in Wingate, Indiana to Elmer S. and Frances D. (Bunnell) Webb.

Martha graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1943.

She graduated from Purdue University in 1947 with a degree in Home Economics.  Shortly after graduation, on July 12, 1947, Martha married John M. Gilkey of Wingate, Indiana and moved to Kettering, Ohio.  While living in Kettering, Martha was a homemaker. After raising her two children, she obtained her teaching certificate from Wright State University and subsequently taught third grade in the Kettering School System for 19 years, retiring in 1988.

In 2011 Martha and John moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia to be near their daughter.  Martha enjoyed a fulfilling life at Delmar Gardens, and the family is grateful for the love and care she received from the staff over the past eight years.

Martha was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering, Ohio.  She was also a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association as well as the Ohio and Montgomery County Retired Teachers Associations.  While living in Kettering she was an active member of the XYZ Women's Club.

Martha is preceded in death by her husband John and her sister Barbara (Webb) Ralston.  She is survived by two children, Gregg Gilkey (Kathy) and Terri (Steve) Damon, five grandchildren, Meghan (Jared) Friesen, Abigail (Darrell) Blanks, Mallory (Brad) Theiss, Gwen Gilkey and Alex (Mollie) Damon, eleven great-grandchildren as well as two nieces Sandra Ralston (husband Chris) and Sherry Reash (husband Steve).

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 26th from 10:00 -11:00 AM at Family & Friends Funeral Home, Wingate, Indiana, immediately followed by a service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wingate.   Donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd., Kettering, Ohio 45429.  Visit us online at www.familyandfriendsfhcom to leave a condolence or sign the guestbook.
