Obituary

Martha Whiteside Meahl Keith, age 91 (formerly of Newtown and Crawfordsville) of Enterprise, KS, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in Enterprise. She was born in Newtown, April 29, 1925, the daughter of the late James and Bessie Whiteside. Her father was the town's pharmacist. She was married to John P. Meahl, August 31, 1946 shortly after his discharge from the Army following WWII. He preceded her in death October 30, 1990. In 1999 she married Alva Keith and he preceded her in death in January of 2002.

Martha was raised in Newtown and a graduate of Newtown High School. She was a very social person and enjoyed entertaining in her home or on the beach. She was very talented in the kitchen and she loved playing bridge with her friends. During her husband's work in commercial insurance, she lived in Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, California and Missouri. She moved to Plainfield, Indiana in 2002 following her second husband's death and remained there until 2011 when she moved to Enterprise, KS to be near her son, following declining health.

She is survived by three sons: John Meahl Jr. of Cynthiana, KY, James Meahl who serves on a US government military supply ship in Asia and Jeff (wife Beth) of Enterprise, KS. Also surviving are two grandchildren. Tim Meahl of Roeland Park, KS , Robyn Meahl of Berlin, Germany and a step-daughter Janece Bueche of Plano, TX.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. with a visitation, noon until service time, Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Newtown Community Church with Pastor Mike Parks officiating.
