Obituary

Martha Irene (Murdock) Rankin, 85, of Crawfordsville, died peacefully on February 11, 2018, at Franciscan Health after a lengthy illness in Crawfordsville. Martha was a graduate of Wingate High School. She was married to Robert Lee on August 9, 1950, who died in 1993. She leaves behind 2 daughters: Linda (Harold) Mennen of Crawfordsville, and Sue Ann (Shawn) Benham of Valparaiso. Also, one treasured grandson, Ryan Mennen of Romney. Ryan was the light of his grandma and grandpa Rankin's lives!

Deceased are her parents Byrl and Nellie Murdock, four brothers: Forest, Robert, Carl, and Ancil. She leaves one sister-in-law, Ellen (Ancil) Murdock, many nieces, and nephews.

Linda and Sue Ann remember their mother as the best mom in the world! Besides working for many years at the Wingate (and later, Lafayette) post offices. Upon retirement, she volunteered cheerfully as a pink lady at Culver Hospital. The foundation of the family was church, they were active members of the United Church of Christ in Wingate, where she served in various capacities. She was a 50 year member of the Wingate Order of Eastern Star. She also was a talented seamstress, a great cook, and an immaculate housekeeper. As the girls grew up, she was always in attendance at their various activities.

She did it all, never complaining, always making sure everyone and everything was taken care of! She did her earthly job as wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and God's beloved child. She has left behind two strong girls who loved their mother so much. They are thankful she is now at eternal rest.
The family remembers and thanks many, many friends and family members who have reached out during her lengthy illness. Every week, she looked forward to getting her hair styled by Rita Kelsey who made an already pretty woman even more beautiful!

The family has requested a private funeral service and Martha will be buried in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, with Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County or the Montgomery Community Foundation. To leave a condolence or sign the guest book, visit us at www.familyandfriendsfh.com
