Obituary

Marvin Wayne Barnes, 67, of New Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026.

Born on August 2, 1958, Marvin was a lifelong resident of New Richmond. He graduated from North Montgomery High School with the Class of 1977. He began his career at the local Co-Op, where he worked until 1985, before joining Wabash National. After more than two decades of dedicated service, he retired from Wabash National.

Marvin was a kind and generous man whose sense of humor and storytelling brought joy to everyone around him. He never met a stranger for long, and those who knew him often joked that he would have made the perfect tour guide because of the way he could turn any conversation into a memorable story.

He had a lifelong passion for old trucks, hot rods, and just about anything with an engine. Marvin loved working with his hands, building and fixing things, and he had a remarkable ability to see hidden potential where others could not. He welcomed challenges with determination and creativity, always finding a way to make something better.

More than anything, Marvin treasured the time he spent with his family and friends. He was proud of the relationships he built throughout his life and was blessed with loyal friends who stood by him through every season.

Marvin is survived by his brother, Lenny (Miriam) Barnes; his daughter, Misty (Brad) Mills; his son, Dustin (Daymia) Barnes; his beloved grandson, Nash; many cherished nieces and nephews, and former wife; Theresa Barnes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Barnes and Esther Rich; his stepfather, Charles Rich; his brother, Terry Barnes; his sister, Judy Childers; and his nephew, Robbie Childers.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who supported Marvin throughout the last several years of his illness. Your kindness, friendship, and unwavering support meant more than words can express.

Marvin will be remembered for his generous heart, his quick wit, his endless stories, and his ability to find beauty and purpose in things others overlooked. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the things he built, and the memories he created with those who loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be at Family & Friends Funeral Home on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until funeral service time at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Alan Sparks officiating. The family requests that if you have a hot rod or classic car or pickup truck please drive it to the funeral home to commemorate Marvin’s love of cars. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or Riley Children’s Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.familyandfriendsfh.com.
