Obituary
Mary Frances Biddle Claycomb age 91 of Wingate, died Friday morning , November 25, 2011 in Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital – Crawfordsville, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Webster, Kentucky, April 18, 1920 the daughter of the late Grover and Edith Knott Biddle. She was first married to Allen Mattingly, he preceded her in death in 1954. She later married Gilbert Claycomb and he preceded her in death in 1974.
Mary had attended schools in Kentucky and as an eight year old, began playing the organ in her church She and her second husband moved to the Wingate area in 1950. She was employed by Holiday Inn of Crawfordsville for 20 years. Mary had been an active member of the Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ until her health failed. She was a great cook, loved flowers and gardening. As an accomplished quilter and seamstress, she had made numerous quilts for family and friends. She loved playing the organ and was a fan of watching wrestling on TV. Her great joy was being with family and grandchildren.
Surviving are five daughters: Mary (Art) Webb of Worthington, IN, Barbara (Larry) Keene of Dunnellon, FL, Sue Claycomb of Wingate, Linda (Paul) England of Wingate and Marguerite (Dave) Davenport of Dunnellon, FL. Five Sons: Lawrence 'Pete' (Ruth) Mattingly of Summerfield, FL, Scott (Tammy) Mattingly, Dunnellon, FL , Gary (Debby) Claycomb of Umatilla, FL, Marty (Amy) Claycomb of Crawfordsville and David Claycomb of Indianapolis. 29 grandchildren and many, many great and great-great grandchildren also survive. Preceding her in death were a daughter Ann Holcomb, four grandchildren and a sister Evelyn Cashman.
The family will receive guests, Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate from 12:00 noon- 2:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m with Pastor Gordon Nichols officiating . Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ Building Fund.
