Obituary

Rural Veedersburg (Newtown) Mary Pauline Minnick Payne, age 82 died following a short illness, 9:05 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 in St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. Pauline was born in Shawnee Township on the family farm, daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude Fairchild Minnick. She was a 1947 graduate of Richland Township High School. She was married to L. T. Payne on April 30, 1947.

Pauline was a very hard working , strong willed woman and valued her agricultural heritage. She was born, raised, operated and raised her family on the farm, which has been in her family since the deed was signed by John Quincy Adams. She also had worked as a private duty nurse and was a long distance operator for Indiana Bell in Attica until the office closed.

Pauline was a ten year member of 4-H in her youth and never got away from being involved with the program. She encouraged and assisted her own children and grandchildren with their 4-H projects. Due to her declining health, this years Fountain County fair cattle show was the first she missed. She had attended Union Christian Church until it closed, was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Newtown and attended Newtown Community Church where she served many years as financial secretary. She enjoyed Red Hatters, going to the Covington Senior Center, just received her 50 year pin for being a member of the Domestic Debs Home Ec. Club, she visited weekly at the Sterling Church KIT Club and was a member of the Newtown American Legion Auxiliary. Pauline often served as a taxi for her many friends needing a ride. In her youth she was a member of the Newtown Band.

Surviving are four children: Sons: Michael (Lena) Payne of Crawfordsville and Edward (Kim) Payne of Attica. Daughters: Pat (Jeff) Liggett of Newtown and Sandy (Kent) Payne of rural Veedersburg. Sixteen grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Preceding her are her parents, and sister Gladys Streit.

Pauline's family will greet guests, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.Thursday, Spetember 13, 2012 at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral service at the funeral home, 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Union Christian Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Union Christian Cemetery or Newtown Community Church. Family requests casual dress for visitation and service.
