Maxine Hurd Cross, age 79, a former resident of Mellott, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 in Rosewalk Village of Lafayette, her death was unexpected. She was born in Gamaliel, KY, September 19, 1937 daughter of the late Clifford and Bessie Safford Hurd. She married Edison H. Cross on October 7, 1954 in Temple Hill, KY and he preceded her in death December 28, 2010.

She attended school in Kentucky and following her marriage had been a Fountain County resident until moving to Rosewalk Village six years ago. Maxine had been employed at RMC in Attica for 15 years and also operated the Mellott Grocery for many years. She had served on the advisory board of Fountain Trust Bank, attended the Mellott Church and enjoyed working in her yard.

Maxine loved to shop and was a familiar visitor at Macy's in Lafayette. She enjoyed being able to assist the staff of Rosewalk Village in caring for other residents. She was the 'Bingo Queen' of Rosewalk and was also named the Prom Queen of Rosewalk Village. She enjoyed time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include: a daughter: Diane (Mike) Robinson and a son: Dennie (Karen) Cross both of Lafayette. Seven grandchildren: Jason Robinson, Jakob Robinson, Sabrina Miller, Tabitha Gamroth, Matthu Harmon, Chase Robinson and Nikolaus Cross. Great-grandchildren: Lukas, Ava, Dusty, Riley, Mia, Max, Wyatt, Reese and Gunner. A sister, Willie Mae Key of Covington and a brother Guye (Karen) Hurd of Mellott. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband daughters: Debbie and Dottie and great-grandson Zachary.

Visitations hours are 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Mary Hollis officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
