Mildred Claire Palin Martin, 93, of New Richmond, passed away at 12:58 AM Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville.  She had been in failing health the past month.  She was born June 23, 1930, in Richland Township, Fountain County, daughter of the late Harry and Hallie Stockdale Palin.  She married Richard 'Dick' Martin in Bringhurst on November 2, 1952, and he preceded her in death June 19, 2015.

Gram, as she was lovingly referred, was a graduate of Richland Township High School.  She was a homemaker and farm wife.  She and Dick settled on a farm near New Richmond in 1960 and remained there until she passed.

Mildred was known as a great cook, was always there for her family and was a favorite aunt to many.  She enjoyed going to local diners over the years and recently appreciated Crossroads in Attica, where she made many friends.  One of the highlights of her life was being an extra in many scenes in the movie, Hoosiers.  Whether filming was in New Richmond, Lebanon, Knightstown or at Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse, she was always in attendance.  It was a great experience, and she was proud to be a part of the movie.

Surviving are two children: Sharilyn Ann 'Sissy' Martin and William R. (Vicki) Martin both of New Richmond. Grandchildren: Angie (Mike) Steffen, Sarah Jo (Matthew) Kelp and Christopher Maxwell.  Great-grandchildren: Lauren & Nolan Kelp, and Jaxson & Harper Maxwell.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, and granddaughter Jill Elizabeth Martin.  Three brothers and four sisters also preceded her.

Visitation hours are 1:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday, August 13, 2023.  Funeral services follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate.  Burial will follow in New Richmond Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to New Hope Chapel in Wingate.  Visit us at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guest book or leave a condolence.
