Crawfordsville – Mildred Robinson Young, age 86, passed away at 7:48 a.m. Sunday, March 4, 2018 in Hickory Creek Nursing Home. She was born in Bloomington, September 8, 1931 daughter of the late Clyde and Dollie Weddle Robinson. She married Leroy C. Young, in Bloomington on June 3, 1950. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2012.
Mildred was a graduate of Bloomington High School. She and Leroy moved to Montgomery County and farmed near New Richmond from 1954 – 1986. They moved to Jamestown and operated a Perdue poultry farm 1986 – 2009. They then retired to Crawfordsville. She was a former member of the Locust Grove Church of Christ, Liberty Chapel, Old Union Church in Jamestown and the Whitesville Church,
Mildred enjoyed quilting and assisted with the 4-H Dairy Dept. at the county fair. She was also modestly proud to have been an 'extra' in the movie 'Hoosiers'. She can be seen early in the movie as the lady raking leaves in her lawn.
Surviving are: a son; David (Dawn) Young of Linden, two daughters; Jennifer (Paul) Richardson of Indianapolis and Janet (Earl) Heide of Linden. Fourteen grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, a brother Kenny Robinson of Bloomington, four sisters; Vera (Tom) Baker of West Newton, IL, Eva (Jack) Regan, Judy (Randy) Anderson and Susie (Mike) Martin all of Bloomington. Preceding her in death; husband Leroy, her parents, sisters Dorthy and Margie Lou, brothers; Clyde 'Freddy' and Ernie. Two daughters; Cheryl Geiger and Kathy Verhey, three great-grandsons.
Visitation hours are 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Family and Friends Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Whitacre officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to Montgomery County 4-H or Whitesville Church. Burial will follow in New Richmond Cemetery.
