Obituary

Randall 'Randy' Lee Hollis age 72 of Veedersburg, passed away surrounded by family, at 10:10 AM Wednesday, July 19, 2023 in The Waters of Covington, following a valiant battle with a rare autoimmune disease.  Randy was born March 18, 1951 in Williamsport, son of the late Cecil Leroy and Margie Ballah Hollis.  He married Vicki Maria Gayler in the Covington United Methodist Church December 11, 1971 and she survives.

Randy was a 1969 graduate of Fountain Central High School and attended DACC for a year in business management.  He spent his career employed as a machinist (a perfectionist) at Thyssen-Krupp for 42 years.

Randy was a member of Sterling Christian Church where he sang in the choir.  He was a great singer…enjoyed music and was called on to sing at many weddings (he sang the Lord's Prayer at his own wedding), funerals and churches, often performing with his daughter Ashlee.

Randy was a dedicated Christian husband, father, brother, Grampy and friend to many.  He loved his family and home and thoroughly enjoyed just being a 'homebody', working around their place.  He played in a golf league and was on the Mustang football 'Chain Gang' for 30 years.  Randy was happy, with an ever-present smile, loved to help people, and never met a stranger.  He was a woodworker and a 'want to be lumberjack".   Indiana University sports and the St. Louis Cardinals didn't have a bigger fan than Randy.

Surviving along with his wife Vicki, are two children: Ashlee (Tim) Henderson of Covington and Bryce (Brianna) Hollis of Newport.  Grandchildren; Brady, Boyd, Remy & Ledger. A brother Rick (Sue) Hollis and loving sister, Robin (Danny) Jeffries both of Veedersburg.  Sister-in-law Tammy Gayler-Nickle, a brother-in-law Gary Gayler, both of Covington.  Many special nieces and nephews also survive, as well as a community who were happy to call Randy a friend.  He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Angela Star Hollis, in-laws; Marvin "Bud' & Loraine Haniford Gayler, brother-in-law Les Nickle and sister-in-law Judy Gayler.  Randy's family would like to thank the staff of Waters of Covington for their outstanding care he received in his final days.

Visitation hours are 4:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday, July 23, 2023 at the Sterling Christian Church, Veedersburg, with funeral services 11:00 AM Monday, July 24, 2023 at the church with his friend Pastor Gary Johnson and Kevin Wildman officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington.  Memorials in Randy's memory may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Fountain Central Athletics.  Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate is assisting Randy's family.  To sign the guest book or share a memory, visit us at www.familyandfriendsfh.com
