Raymond W. Stine, age 89 of Wingate, died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Mulberry Health & Retirement Community, where he had resided the past year. Ray was born near Indianapolis, May 5, 1925 to the late S. Leon and Sine Moller Stine. He married Pat Naylor on August 6, 1948 in the Stidham United Methodist Church near Shadeland and she survives.
At age 15, Ray's father suffered a heart attack and he took over the farm. Ray began his farming career, near Indianapolis, later farmed near Lafayette and then in 1963 established a farm near Wingate. Farming, was his living and his love. For his dedication to soil conservation, Ray was awarded the 1997 Master Farm Conservationist Award, from the Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and attended New Hope Chapel in Wingate. Ray was a family man, enjoyed mowing and was never at a loss for an opinion.
Surviving along with his wife Pat, are: daughter, Becky (Ed) Miller of Ligonier. son, Steve (Kristi) Stine of Wingate. Four grandchildren: Jennifer (Mike) Flora, Kelly (Josh) Hoffman, Sina (Mickey) Parks and Matt (Rachel) Stine. Six great-grandchildren: Isaac & Grant Flora, Kaden Parks, Grace & Milly Stine, and Everly Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lillie Hardin and Mary Kesler.
Visitation hours are 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2014, with a Masonic service concluding the visitation at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 at the funeral home, with Pastor Duane Mycroft officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
