Obituary
Crawfordsville – Richard Lee Stephenson, age 81, died 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 3 2016 in Ben Hur Health and Rehabilitation, Crawfordsville. He had been in failing health for some time. He was born in New Richmond on December 5, 1934, to the late Milford and Beulah Jarvis Stephenson. He was married to Sarah S. (Shotts) Stephenson in New Richmond, June 15, 1967 and she survives.
He graduated from New Richmond High School and served with the US Army in Germany 1957-1959. Following his discharge he worked as a truck driver hauling many different items across the United States for 50 years. He operated a tank truck as a Standard Oil Agent for several years in the New Richmond area. He later drove for Rationmaker Feeds, Hadco and Ceres Solutions. They lived in the New Richmond area the first 15 years of their married life, then 30 years in Vienna, GA and then came back to Indiana.
Richard had belonged to the former New Richmond United Methodist Church and had served as a New Richmond Volunteer Fire Fighter. He enjoyed traveling, golf and fishing. He was very protective of his family and had a great love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a great Dad, who took his family on memorable vacations and travel adventures. But, most importantly, he found his way to the Lord!
Surviving along with his wife Sarah, are: two daughters: Julie (Steve) Spencer and Janet Fogleman both of Crawfordsville, three sons; Rick (Deborah) Stephenson of Milner, GA; John Patrick Stephenson of Hampton, GA and Michael David (Jill) Stephenson of Camas, WA. A brother David (Janie) Stephenson of Vienna, GA, a sister-in-law Mary Lou Spragg of Attica, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Peggy Jo.
