Obituary

Jefferson – Richard Joseph ' Dickie, Joe, Dick' Swan age 69, died as the result of an chain reaction auto accident on Interstate 65 in northern Jasper County, early morning, Saturday, August 18, 2012. He was born in Frankfort, IN on January 31, 1943 son of the Late Milton L and Dorothy Marie Kaser Swan. He was a graduate of Jefferson School in Jefferson, Clinton County.

Richard had served in the U.S. States Army and retired from GTE. He moved back into the area in 2010 and was currently employed at Deer Creek Golf Course. Prior to moving back, he had lived in Venice, Florida where he owned and operated a lawn service and a sports pub. Joe was a colorful character, who never met a stranger. His outgoing, friendly, positive and free spirit personality endeared him to all he met.

He belonged to the American Legion, Navy Club, VFW and Moose Lodge. He loved golfing, Nascar, going to the horse track and dog tracks, euchre and spending time with extended family. Being quite the singer, Dickie could often be found involved in Karaoke .

Survivng are five daughters: Rhonda 'Roni' (Marc) Ambrose of North Port, FL, Sonya (Kevin) Baumis of West Lafayette, IN, Randi (Gary) McElwee of Veedersburg, IN, April (Steve) Talbott, Shelton, WA, Amber Swan of Lafayette, IN. A sister Mary Swan of Frankfort. A brother Charlie Swan of Frankfort. Twelve grandchildren: Britny, Zachary, Taylor, Brooke, Ross, Dustin, Kienan, Brenan, Chandler, Cassie, Max, Luke. Two 'grand dogs' Bella and Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jerry Swan.

His family will receive guests, Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. A celebration of Dickie's Life will be held at the funeral home, Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with his daughters leading the service. The family prefers in lieu of flowers memorials may best be directed for the continued care of his daughter Amber who suffers with Cerebral Palsey, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
