Richard L Williams, 73, of Crawfordsville, formerly of Oxford, MS, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Crawfordsville. He was born July 8, 1941, in Day, FL, to the late Cecil and Era Farnell Williams.

He was a high school math teacher when he met his future wife, Vana Jane "Bunny" Wiley. She was the home economics teacher. They were married Aug. 15, 1965, in Water Valley, MS. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2012.

Mr. Williams retired as the supervisor of education at the Marion Federal Correctional Facility after 30 years of service with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

He coached high school volleyball and basketball, including his daughter's teams. He volunteered for high school and community theater productions as a set designer and builder with his son. He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Oxford, MS

He and his many buddies enjoyed competition barbecue and baseball. He was a fisherman and hunted with bow and shotgun.
Survivors include his son, Richard Lynn Williams Jr. and partner Mitchell Bartee of Seattle, WA; his daughter, Sara Virginia Williams and partner Melanie Slate of Crawfordsville; brother-in-law, Ed Chessman and Gail Myers; sister-in-law, Ginny and Steve Seeley of Jackson, MS; other relatives and many good friends.
His parents and one sister, Reba Chessman, also preceded him in death.

His family will greet guests, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. He will be taken to Oxford Mississippi, where funeral services and interment will follow. Memorial contributions may best be directed to the Boys & Girls Club of Montgomery County.
