West Point - Rose Opal Osterling Oliver, age 98 of rural West Point died in her residence following a lengthy illness at 2:12 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2009. She was born January 23, 1911 in West Point to the late Albert and Pearl Hoffine Osterling. She graduated from West Point High School with the class of 1928 and had remained a life resident of the area. In 1929 she graduated from the Lafayette Conservatory of Music in dramatic arts. She was formerly married to Myron Everett Oliver.
She had been active in San Souici Club, West Point United Methodist Woman's Club and Wednesday Club. Her hobbies were counted crosstitch, knitting and china painting. She had been employed at Duncan Meter from 1942 until her retirement in 1976.
Surviving is a son: Dr. Jack William Oliver (companion Tricia Grubb) of West Point, In. Two grandsons: Dennis (wife Carol) Oliver of Attica, IN and Jeff Oliver of West Point. Three great grandchildren Hannah, Eloise and Gentry Oliver. She was preceded in death by a sister Violet Osterling and a son Donald D. Oliver.
A private family grave side service will be held at West Point Cemetery. Memorial contributions may best be directed to the West Point Fire Department.
